Eat the worm
Wormwood has some thought provoking and practical comments on depth of search in real games. Great stuff it is (pardon my Bigfoot grammar). My new mantra is becoming, "Breadth not depth." I don't know why Wormwood wasn't in my rotation. That's been fixed.
Also, a big THANK YOU for reading my blog. Yesterday we passed hit number 100,000 since I started keeping stats about two and a half years ago. I am humbled and filled with gratitude that you visit my idiosyncratic blog.

Congratulations! And thank you to you too, for all the great stuff you've published since you started. 100 000 hits is quite a lot. What do you figure the chick ratio is? :p
Congratulations.
Hits, not visitors?
SP: Polly is the only female reading this blog. :)
TS: It only tells me how many hits total, not unique visitors. Probably about 10. :)
Count me in for 90,000 hits
unique visitor - hit ratio at my blog is 75%
Congratulations on the 100K milestone!
Here are some of my stats:
For Nov 2007 from my web host company:
Sites Visits
1534 3495
Pages Files Hits
5266 20767 27843
This is for the entire glennwilson.com dynansty (but most of the activity is for the chess division).
For the targeted glennwilson.com/chess, for the last month per Google Analytics :
Visits: 1405
PageViews: 2992
Absolute Unique Visitors: 821
Female Visitors*: 1
These number are very different.
GA only tracks the pages that have special code inserted. And it only tracks them when they are loaded into a browser (and the special script runs). That only includes the chess blog pages and the main page of each of my replayable game pages and the HCC schedule and the PEC errata. And, I have told it to ignore me browsing and admiring my own work (it can do that). I'm sure that I am the most frequent visitor to my blog.
My web host site tracks all of the files and pages and quite frankly I'm not sure how any of these numbers or terms are defined exactly.
From blogger the special code required can just be added to your template.
GA also gives lots of other useful info -- check it out at:

*OK, I made that one up.
I fell down the rabbit hole...
seeing to how my actual name is George, naturally I was curious and clicked the Bogfoot link...
:(
Man that is one sad messed up dude.."it is".
thanks for teh obscure reference
BP: :) He is a funny guy. He is from Vermont, which is one reason I like to listen to him.
I always thought that one indication of the popularity of this blog was the fact that more visitors are referred to my blog from here than anywhere else (including BCC, most likely because they have so many more links). On the other hand Susan Polgar single handedly quadrupled my daily traffic two days ago just by listing my url (along with a dozen others) in a post.
In the end I think I prefer a few friendly comments (I feel lucky that nice people found my blog) to a mountain of blog stats.
In any case, congrats on your popularity! I think in this case it's a function of quality.
congrats on the milestone BDK. I'm not surprised :) Continued quality posts from you make this site one of the first stops for me every day.
Aww, shucks.
With that many hits you should sell advertising space, there could be money in chess after all despite Fide's efforts to sabotage this through being the most unimaginative and uncharasmatic sporting organization in human history.
Boozer: naawww. I don't want ads on my site. Though I'm coming up with t-shirt designs :)
Congrats!!!
How does one get a counter that's not tied into some annoying ad crap?
Damn you need some hot chicks besides me checking out your blog! :-)
Though like everything else about chess the chick population is rather low. :-(
Polly: I use the stuff provided from statcounter.com. You just insert some code into the bottom of your template. I use the streamlines, nonjava version that only records hits (not where people came from etc).
