I would point out that L.B. Hansen is writing in the context of the endgame--while the isolani struggle is one of the more interesting positional battles in chess, that is in a middlegame context. Hansen would seem to be talking about advancing your pawn group together in the ending; I think all of us at one time or another have had connected passed pawns and thought we could push one down the board, only to find that they both went lost...

I am not afraid of isolated pawns: indeed I enjoy attacking them!
I enjoy playing WITH the isolani, when I have my king's bishop.
I enjoy playing AGAINST the isolani when my opponent doesn't have the king's bishop.

Paul Morphy gave up chess the day after he first got the urge to attack an isolated pawn instead of playing like Paul Morphy.
