Reassess your chess next year
As I mentioned in a previous post, Silman is releasing a fourth edition of How to Reassess your Chess, which he says will be a major overhaul and improvement to the third edition. In his his original discussion of this matter he said that he planned on releasing it at the end of 2007. I emailed him about his plans for publication, and he responded:
What a good egg he is to respond to my query. In addition to having the best endgame book out there, he now is on my "good egg" list. Liquid egg product's mascot, it has been reported, is jealous.
Dear [Blue Devil Knight],
Sadly, I'm always late on these books. I'm hoping to finish it by the end of 08. Expect it to be available in late 08 or early 09.
Hopefully, all the fans of the first one will find this to be worth the wait!
Sincerely,
Jeremy Silman

I THINK YOU FOCUS TOO MUCH ON OPENINGS WITH THE BOOKS I SAW.
I CONCENTRATE ON TACTICS,INSTRUCTIVE GAME BOOKS LIKE THE MOST INSTRUCTIVE GAMES BY CHERNEV,LOGICAL CHESS AND A FEW MORE AND ENDINGS.IN THE FUTURE I WILL STUDY THE GREAT GAMES OF THE MASTERS.STUDYING ALOT OF OPENINGS ARE A WASTE OF TIME AT THE PATZER LEVEL.YOU NEED TO LEARN THE GAME.
Anonymous egads why are you yelling? It actually makes it harder to read when people use all caps.
Yes, you are definitely right. It was not helpful necessarily for my chess but I just really enjoy studying openings for the aesthetics of the thing. Also, see my comments on the first video where I discuss this topic a bit more.
BDK,
YOU SILLY PATZER ,HOW DARE YOU CHALLENGE "HE WHO WRITES IN CAPS" !
LEARN THE GAME,YOU FOOL!

Tak: THANKS FOR THE LINK TO THE REVIEW OF SILMAN'S BOOK. I REALLY APPRECIATE IT.
Incidentally, this blog has had a lot of discussion about how much, or little, to look at openings. This was talked about quite a bit, and I developed a restriction on how much time I was allowed to spend on openings, in my rule of 10 post.
HI BLUE DEVIL KNIGHT! HOW ARE YOU DOING?! I JUST WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT I AM ACTUCALLY SCREAMING THIS AS I TYPE IT. YES MY DOG IS LOOKING AT ME FUNNY. BUT PEOPLE YOU TYPE IN ALL CAPS IRRITATE THE HELL OUT OF ME! OK, NOW I HAVE TO WALK THE DOG!
thank you.
ps. maybe he's the anti-chessloser.;)
ARRRGH!!!! YES THIS IS THE MASCOT!!! HOW DARE YOU BDK I THOUGHT YOU WERE COOL BUT NOW YOU THINK SILMAN IS COOLER THAN ME!!!! I WILL BURN ALL THE SILMAN BOOKS I CAN FIND!!!
AND I PREFER TO USE CUTLASSES RATHER THAN DAGGERS THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!
Oh, and thanks for the update.
There was no particular reason why I wrote in caps.AND I TAKE IT AS AN OFFENSE THAT YOU DID!!!!
Just kidding!!
One of my favorite blogs of yours was the one on Chernev's books.Terrific writer!
Reinfeld did several books I enjoy. The Complete Book of Chess Stratagems, and the two 1001 books.
WANG: LMAO. That is awesome. Why am I starting to regret complaining about all caps...
Mascot: you are flipping Silman the bird, not holding a dagger. Your scrawny little egg (non-middle) fingers are just too scrawny to see (it has nothing to do with my photoshopping skills).
tcoem: Wow something about the Silman book!!! I'm excited. That may well be the next chess book I buy (from the vids, it is obvious I already have too many and am on prohibition right now from buying chess books..I must have spent 2000 bucks or so...crap...).
anon Chernev is fun. I review that at some point in the vid, reluctantly giving it a B...
lol I also thought the Mascot was holding a dagger...
damn don't remind me of the money spent on chess books... it's scary to think how many $$$ those shelves full of books translate to...
i thought it was clearly a middle finger. but then, i am used to driving in LA traffic.
looking forward to the rest of the book reviews. :)
Silman's "Reassess" is an awesome book. I found a copy at a yard sale for 50 cents (I love finding great books for no money)!
Enjoying the book videos. Hate this is a swan song for you as far as chess is concerned, but appreciate, and am very knowledgable about moving on to other things. Life *is* short, and there is a lot of great stuff out there to experience beyond the 64.
Cheers,
Rich
Pawned! (exclamatory, but never yelling)
Thanks for the note Pawned. I am really looking forward to picking up Silman's book. I have never read it and am waiting for the fourth ed...
