Sunday Gaming: Win against a 1300

I think I'll post a game every Sunday evening.

I am happy with this game not because I played brilliantly (I did not), but because it's my first win against a 1300+ player. Such wins are important for building confidence, I think. Also, he tried an opening I've never seen so I'm happy I was able to hold on and win it.

Thank goodness people don't consistently play Real Chess against me!

  1. Nice mate. The name of his opening was "irregular":)
My experience is that below 1500 the opening knowledge of the majority is non existent.

  2. BDK,

    Nice game

    After 3...f6 4. Nxe5 fxe5 5.Qh5+ g6 6.Qxe5+ and his rook is dead or 5.Qh5+ Kd7 6 Qxe5 and his King is gasping after air.LOL!

Be aware that after the capture of the rook he might have a counter-attack.

  3. I thought your play was not as strong as in the previous game you posted.

    After black's f6, Nxe5 is a good sac.

As for your pawn fork, it looks like you simply used the wrong pawn.

    Keep posting games!

  4. BTW, are you using a computer engine to analyze your games? If not, do it! :)

  5. Patrick: I have just recently started to run Fritz over my games and analyze the positions where the evaluation function jumps against me, posting the positions in a notebook with a description of my mistake.

Yes, you are right that it was the wrong pawn. I was worried about his kingside pawn majority destroying me, so I opened myself up to mate.

Definitely not a particularly strong game, more of a milestone.
